Abstract

Community is one of the most widely used concepts in common language due to the multiple meanings given to it, depending on the scope or dimension of the social reality in which it is applied. There are those who highlight certain characteristics linked to the common territorial settlement of the inhabitants of a human group, others highlight the community as a particular form of social development, others identify it as a specific form of social relationship. In another sense, sociocultural cohesion stands out as a determinant of the community, to mention some of the main theoretical aspects of the concept of community. In order to understand the breadth of meanings, identify its constitutive factors and the political use of the concept in social practice, this paper presents a brief systematization of the theoretical contributions on the concept of Community, following a path that begins with the description of considerations of the concept of Community in its most general sense, after reviewing the types of Community proposed by Max Weber, leading to more particular meanings used in concepts such as agrarian community, or peasant commune, as proposed by Warman and Shanin, respectively, and finally the idea of community as a world of life (Habermas), reflective community (Guidens), real community, imaginary community and elusive community, in the context of modernization that Bauman works and reinforces Byung Chul Han.
