Intervention and leading role of the Marquenses in the Western Revolution of 1897 and 1898

The main purpose of the article is to visualize and reassess the participation of characters from San Marcos in the organization and development of the Western Revolution, a popular and military historical event that happens in this region of Guatemala between September and October 1897 and July and August 1898, against the Marquis President General José María Reyna Barrios and his successor Manuel Estrada Cabrera. We will do a quick analyze biographical aspects, as well as his constitutional management, his relationship with the inhabitants of San Marcos and finally his transformation into a dictator, which triggered the armed events described above. Finally, we present documents from the documentary collection of the San Marcos Municipal Historical Archive on aspects of the consequences of this movement and we also share a photographic series that in commemoration of this important event, but forgotten in local history, organized by the Council of the Municipal Archive to reactivate his memory.
