The objective of the research was to estimate the useful life of the lubricant used in engines that use a biofuel mixture. Tests were conducted on two identical mechanically injected diesel internal combustion engines, which ran on 50% and 25% vegetable oil fuel blends for 400 hours with lubricant samples taken every 100 hours. The study was based on the reduction of the alkaline reserve of the TBN lubricant, under the influence of the use of biofuel, through the analysis of used oil. The results show that the TBN was reduced, from a standard value of 9.3, to values after 400 hours of 7.85 and 7.74, with this information and the use of mathematical formulas, the useful life of the lubricating oil was estimated at 560 and 460 hours. , before the TBN value reaches 4.65 which is considered critical.
